This is going to be a long one...

Sit back and enjoy, as this will be the last blog here.
As some of you will already know, Saturday the 20th Devastator gave a truely awful performance at it's gig in JH H²W. It's obvious our drummer was too wasted to play and we went on anyway. Therefor, we would like to apologize as a band together towards all the people who came out to see us. We collectively failed you, audience as well as organisation as well as ourselves and therefor we are very sorry indeed.
I would also like to personally apologize, apart from the band, for losing my temper in the beginning of the set due to PA problems.

Also, in the aftermath of that disaster, Jef, our drummer has decided to quit the band. I have no words to describe the feeling I get from someone quitting a band just because he decides to get wasted one night.. It's almost unbelievable. To me it certainly is...
Yet, it remains his decision and so we are sad to see him go. You can still see Jef in his new band Grimlock, together with some old friends Sepp and Vinnie. But due to this irrational decision in the band here, I feel I can no longer follow him in Grimlock. Another sad blow for me, because I truely feel Grimlock has the potential to be a very brutal band and I would've loved to be part of it, if only to play in a band with my friends. Don't get me wrong here, Jef is still a dear friend of me and the entirety of Devastator. Only this decision doesn't sit right with us, but no one is perfect and should be judged on one action alone.

So here's the part for all of you to rejoice:
Taking in all those downfalls, Devastator has decided to lay down it's weapons and surrender. That's right, we QUIT!
After 7 long years of playing show after show, numerous line up changes and more, we have decided to stop trying. We feel we just can't go on as a band without Jef, as his level of skill would be impossible for us to replace. He has always been a driving force behind the band and without him, going on would just be wrong.
Tjevie has decided to go on with Beneath The Remains together with Jef and we wish 'em both the best of luck. Perhaps Strakke, our new samplekid, will follow them there.
As for Vjee and Vaze, it's very sad that they should see the band die right at the start of their promising growth! I hope that they'll find new projects very soon in which to kick an insane amount of ass. Those guys really deserve it!

Going on this line of thoughts, I myself have decided to call it a day. This of course is the deepest blow I've had to endure in 7 long years.
Music has long been and still is the only way for me to vent my extreme amounts of rage I have building up inside. And without it I have no idea how much longer I can go on in this world....
I could start anew, but I've seen from experience that a band is not a release from one's frustrations unless every band member makes an effort to make it work. In the past I've had to drag bandmembers over the finish line to make things work and I just don't feel like doing that anymore. If I start over, I want to do it with 4-5 other talented musicians who fight just as vehemently as I to make the best sort of music their hands, throats, feet and minds can produce collectively. But so far, I've only seen one or 2 bands at most in Belgium where this sort of setup is there (ASW/CJTC, I love you guys).

Shit, sometimes I can't believe it's really over. Or why even? I feel we've grown like no other band has grown before and in 7 years we've pushed boundries ever further in the genres too easily accepted as the new norm. I hope that all my former bandmembers take this attitude in their new projects, so that in the years to come we will hear more and more of them.

I will stop writing now. I could still write down hundreds of thoughts I have, but everybody probably already fell asleep by now or has left the keyboard in search of something better to do.
To all of you who've read this until the end: Thank you!

As my friend Mike once said: "Take the road less traveled".
